horrifying busride!

Today, well, yesterday technically, I dropped off Michie at clement while taking a 143 and continued the journey towards JE Interchange, in the top deck of the double-decker. There was this Indian couple, the woman looking fairly typical and timid and the guy looking like your typical Indian 'ah-beng' (gangster). No one really took notice till he said this out really loud. It's offensive and RA, so be careful, I warned.

"…then don't pick up the phone la! Your brain in your CB ah?!" – The man.
(for non-singaporean, CB = cheebai = the vagina in chinese dilact)

I don't know about you, but I was outraged for the public around me and mostly, for the poor woman who still chose to lean on him, head on his shoulder. He kept bugging her. He kept scolding her switching between Tamil and English. Five minutes later, I heard a really loud slap. Frankly, I was too scared to look at them for I feared being beaten up (man, I'm such a wuss! Hey, at least I was smart enough to use the glass reflection to watch the scene.). The woman started to cry, quite softly but still could be heard, and still on his shoulder.

Then he just kept going at her. He kept scolding her all the way till he got off a stop before the bus ride terminated at the interchanged. All this time, the woman did not say a single word to him. After they went down I looked at the Indian man, who was sitting in front of them, and we both smiled at each other in a really sad manner (it can be done, really) and shook our heads to ourselves.

Don't marry someone who hits you or raise his hands to you. Marry someone who loves you and respect you in that love. Respect. Every human deserves that. I really feel like crying for her.

Indian dude: @!$%# you! Your brain got flushed down the toilet this morning.

This isn't the sort of thing that goes in odd news. It is neither odd (this type of thing happens all the time, all over the world) and it isn't news (nothing unique about this one, accept you saw it). The lessons to take away from it are:
1. People, in particular guys (and I am one) really suck.
2. Other people, probably equally for both genders, know people suck and don't do anything about it.

Cool article. Refreshingly different from the run-of-the-mill stuff you get on the front pages of Newsvine today.

fastfinge, i understand your point. it was my first ever experience of such. i do apologise. usually, i write about things i experience in my everyday life. :)

i'd also like to point out to you that in the context of Singapore, this is a rare thing to the outside world. these things don't get shown off to the public due to a really strict legal system! you can get charged for anything really; including oral sex. haha. (nt tat i've heard anyone got charged tho).

    and rhine, thank you!

    Dineth,

I really enjoy your honesty and straightforward style of writing. Keep it up.

As to your experience..scenes like this are common in America, sadly. I think the question is; what happens to a woman to cause her to have so little self-esteem that she thinks herself worthy of such disrespect?
